FEATURED ARTIST *LEX GIBBON*

Lex Gibbon

Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Where do we start when it comes to Lex Gibbon?! As well as being a musical artist, Lex was the first curve teen model to walk London, Paris, New York, and LA fashion weeks. Lex is currently on her UK School tour promoting her upcoming single ‘All I Do (Is Cry)’, where she also gives talks on mental health awareness, anti-bullying, and body image- all themes that Lex also champions on her TikTok profile (42.2k Followers). It doesn't stop there! She has seen huge amounts of support from media outlets such as ITV and BBC Introducing and was also involved in a partnership earlier this year with Anne Marie to mark the release of her new book ‘You Deserve Better’. This track sounds a lot like Ciao adios Ann Marie and IDGAF Dua Lipa - VIBES ALL ROUND. Juxtaposed with her last release titled ‘Dear Hater’, ‘All I Do (Is Cry)’ is an introduction to a more vulnerable side to Lex as she describes her experiences with heartbreak. At only 17 years old I've got to say, this young lady has an admirable strong mind and a massive desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Having been badly bullied from a young age, Lex understands how this can impact mental health and the devastating effect it can have on all aspects of life. Through her music she wants to help and inspire others to believe they can achieve anything and hats off to her, she's making moves to do so. On a personal note, as a plus-sized woman who was also bullied from a young age, I can say categorically that this young star has inspired me as well as others. Well done girl, keep glowing.

We were really touched by Lex's story and so we reached out to her for an interview! Tamara Jenna asked her about her modeling career, musical journey, and her collaboration with Anne-Marie!

How did you get into modeling? What would your advice be for other plus-sized teens and plus-sized women who want to join the industry but may not have the confidence or support to do so?

I first got into modeling at 13, it all started when I was asked to sing at a fashion show and there were no clothes to fit me. I was then invited back to model the following season and everything came from there.

My advice to other people wanting to get into the industry is to just start. Start by posting a picture on Instagram or a TikTok or sending your headshots over to a modeling agency want to be signed with. The most important thing is to just start.

You've done a lot of notable things within your modeling career, what has been your main highlight?

My favorite part of doing all the modeling so far has been eating cake on the New York fashion catwalk, I felt so powerful!

If you could go back to the time when you were first bullied, what would you say to those people now? and most importantly what would you tell yourself?

If I could go back to when I was being bullied, the first thing I would do is tell somebody. The whole time I was being bullied I didn’t tell anybody what I was going through and that’s my biggest regret, things would’ve been so much easier and would’ve been over so much quicker if I did just opened up. And I will stick up for myself because I never did.

I've got to ask, your relationship with Anne-Marie, how did that come about? and has there been a specific moment that has affected the relationship with your image?

Yes, so my relationship with Anne-Marie started when her team reached out to me asking if I could promote her new book on my socials. I was so excited to be given this opportunity as Anne-Marie is one of my biggest inspirations and she stands for all the same things that I do.

So, onto the music! When did you realise you were an artist? How did that come about?

I don’t think there’s ever been a moment where I’ve realised I was an artist, because it’s been happening for so long, I knew I wanted to be a singer from such a young age maybe about five or six. So it’s just something I’ve always done, I started writing songs when I was 12, so I think it’s just always been a really huge part of my life.

When is your favorite time of day to create?

My favourite time of day to write music is any time after 12pm, I am not a morning person so waking up early just instantly put’s me in a bad mood hahaha.

How do you define success as an artist?

I think when I was younger I only deemed an artist to be successful when they were selling out arena tours (hahahah I know) , but obviously now I see that is such a tiny percentage of artists are able to do that. Now I would say being able to support myself by doing something I love is my biggest goal. But I would still really love to sell out on arena tour hahahaha.

How do you collaborate with other artists?

Honestly I have absolutely no idea, if anybody knows please let me know, because I’ve got so many artist that I would love to work with one day and I just don’t know how to do it.

What are your future plans and what can we look forward to for the rest of 2022?

My plans for the future just to keep writing lots of music, playing some more Live events and also releasing loads of new music, I’m hoping to release every 6 to 8 weeks this year so keep an eye out on my socials to keep up to date with all of that.
