Park City's rock ensemble combines powerful storytelling and music to highlight the struggles of an Ohio town against coal power pollution.

Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions are at it again! We're back again to take you through their known blend of Americana, country, indie rock, and classic rock, this time with their release "Black Coal Lung". This single brings environmental injustice faced by communities near coal power plants to the forefront of their lyricism. Portraying the lives affected by the toxic emissions of a coal power plant in a small Ohio town, "Black Coal Lung" addresses the issues that they say are causing widespread health issues such as COPD, asthma, cancer, and other debilitating lung diseases. As a result of their pressing lyricism, "Black Coal Lung" stands out as a testament to their commitment to blending the realms of rock and storytelling through the aim of raising awareness surrounding the health consequences of industrial pollution.

So, what can you expect to hear? Expect a stunning alt-country piece with an air of Nickleback surrounding the vocals. I love this! There's so much grit, tone, emotion. It's a bitg production but it isn't overpowering, you can hear the emotion in the tone of the vocals and the feeling behind each instrument. "Black Coal Lung" is one of my favorite Rock releses from Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions by a long country mile! You know what that means right? A spot in our Ones2Watch!

The production of "Black Coal Lung" we're told, involved meticulous work from each band member. The song's haunting melodies and lyricism are calls to action, that urge for environmental justice and systemic change to protect the health and well-being of vulnerable populations. It's a hit through and through. The guitar riffs and gorgeous, the country tones are clean as anything and the emotion that seeps out of the piece can't be replicated. So, give it a much-deserved listen, take it the rawness of both the instrumentation and the lyricism.
