I’m gonna need everyone in the Top 10 to start watching their backs, because with the sonic skill displayed in his debut single, ‘I Couldn’t Trust’ it won’t be long before he’s right up there with you. The song starts with a classic sound, some clav keys and bass riffs adorned with guitars to crisp it up, the vocals saunter in with the swagger of someone who’s been here before. Conversational and wildly interesting the lyrics take us on a journey as we take our first look into the mind of R. F. Coleman, a mind that I hope produces more music like this. The single opens up into a modern catchy chorus that showcases Coleman’s vocal talent and breaks into a bridge that is delightfully angelic and gives off Danny Elfman vibes.
