LIONTORTOISE

v4

The musical and spiritual stylings of Liontortoise rise again within the metal quartet's single, ‘v4’. The song is a rock instrumental story in a bottle. Pop the cork and away you go. - FREDDIE MCKEE

With ups and downs and roundabouts, the song takes us through a landscape of emotion. The beauty of instrumental rock is that they don’t have to paint the landscape for you. They are scoring the mind space that lives inside each and every one of us. Having a hard time recently? ‘v4’ will blow you through darkened forests and over misty cliffs. Having the time of your life? ‘v4’ will shower you with sunshine, riding upon a dragons back.

The song has at its core a beefy riff that is tight and full of funk. Liontortoise aren’t like many other metal instrumental bands that I have come across. They weave a sense of jazz and general musicality into their songs and don’t throw a face melter at you every five seconds. It lets the song breathe and feels far more natural. It also sounds better I should just come right out and say it. Face melters are cool, but they need context, and Liontortoise are the kings of musical context. Listen to ‘v4’ and when that’s not enough for you (because trust me you’ll be wanting more and more from this band) listen to the rest of Liontortoise’s phenomenal work. It’s all as profound as ‘v4’ is beautiful.
