One Year

Sydney, Australia

The latest single from Americana/country-pop artist Carnival Mind is stunning in its honesty and harmony. ‘One Year’ is a song about the passage of time, the vastness between us and the power that comes from moving on. The style is clean and savvy. Vocals are personable and warm, they hold tones in them that are simply missing in the pop scene. They have a bite, a flavour. Gritty-smooth and full of character, the vocal hits those harmonies it takes you all the way back to the Americana greats. It's vibrant and strikes a chord within which rumbles to the dulcet tones of ‘One Year’.

The song begins by introducing us to the melody. It is upbeat but you can tell it's coming from a place of fragility. An acoustic strums full force in the back while another guitar whittles away the melody upfront. It's bluesy and infinitely hummable. The vocals drop in and the stage is set for a swaying track that just keeps on layering, growing and hitting those emotions as hard as any ballad you will come across. What Carnival Mind has shown us with ‘One Year’ is that not only can they smash out country classics that will square up the dance floor, they can stop us in our tracks and get us thinking too.

Gritty, smooth, colourful in sepia tone, ‘One Year’ is a song that wears its heart on its sleeve. - FREDDIE MCKEE
