US4 - The Road - A TJPL CHRISTMAS

US4

The Road

Birmingham, United Kingdom

When I think of Irish Christmas music the first thing that comes to my mind is The Pogues (Fairytale of New York) but there is now a new band on the rise who are very much challenging the title. Us4 are an Irish pop/rock band that consists of four siblings from my home town of Birmingham, UK. The group are Áine (lead vocals, tin whistle and accordion), Brendan (guitars), Cormac (drums, percussion, piano and backing vocals) and Declan (fiddle) Healy.

Bringing a new aroma of Christmas spice, the four slices of the pie have a lot to plate up for listeners through their indie pop/rock sounds. Their latest release 'The Road' takes us down the dark and lonely sidepath that we all know is there but never really want to talk about. Addressing the sadness of a year closing in, darker days and change is at the forefront of this song's lyrical content.

'The Road' is a mix of bells, accordion and indie rock guitar and drum compositions with a sprinkle of Irish charm.

If you are looking for something that breaks the traditional model of Christmas music whilst keeping to the chimes and bells of the festivities then Us4 are just what you need! - TAMARA JENNA
