INTRODUCING *Colt Sterk*

Colt Sterk

Changed Her Mind

Eagle, ID, United States

BACKGROUND

Colt Sterk brings his lead vocals and contagious rhythm guitar to his new track entitled 'Changed Her Mind'. He started his musical journey when his grandfather taught him to play guitar at 13. Before age 14, he began to write his own original songs and subsequently started sharing his talent. Taking influence from artists such as the likes of

John Mayer, Jack Johnson and, Eric Church you can imagine the depth that this artist has to his music. Colt Sterk isn't just an artist, he is also currently a US Army Blackhawk Pilot, serving his country.

His latest track entitled 'Changed Her Mind' is a break-up song, referencing an ex who changed her mind after promising her love. The lyrics highlight the struggles after a break up , addressing the struggle to resist an urge to make contact with an ex. Like many of us, Colt Sterk addresses the fact that he just couldn't help himself trough this song's narrative.

So, let's get into the review then!

REVIEW

Opening with a spacey feel a beautiful acoustic guitar and a maraca sounding shake is all consuming. This is a great start to a story that addresses depth and sorrow. As Colt Sterk begins to sing we hear him discuss sleepless nights in lonely sheets whist longer for a lost lover. "Still hung up on a girl that changed her mind" he asks if he calls would she answer or would she watch the phone as it rings? He resists but pours himself a drink. These lyrics are highly relatable for anyone who's been through a breakup, that's all of us right? or? As the track develops we hear the inclusion of electric guitar and heavy drum arrangements that lift the emotion of the words. This track is a whirlwind from the softness of acoustic to the crashes of emotion found in electric guitar. The guitar solos offer emotion to the trail of thought that follows through the lyrics. The vocals in the hook are full of the emotive questions which seep out of this artists' soul. The mix of acoustic and electric in this track makes all the difference. I don't think the song would hit the listener's souls without this contrast. It gives the wrath of Aphrodite and the power of Poseidon in a production that is guaranteed to make you think about an ex whether or not you are over them. Ending on an acoustic tone, we hear Colt Sterk makes it clear that he did the hanging up in the end when he realised that his broken heart is blind. That's what we like to hear! This song would be perfect for any chill, sad, or break-up song playlists and if you're anything like me and you need to have a cry at some point this will do it! Highly emotive, beautifully put together and an open and honest piece from Colt Sterk.

INTERVIEW

What would be your ultimate achievement for your latest single?

Honestly, I would love it to reach someone who is struggling with heartbreak and hope it helps them find solace in knowing other people know where they've been. I'm not interested in vanity metrics.

Do you know something? this track conjured up all sorts of feelings that I had in the past for someone and it helped me realise that I'm actually completely over that person. The moment you speak about in the track is no longer the case for me but your lyrics still allowed for me to really feel your story because I've been there. So thank you for sending it over! It definitely helped me with some old demons. Is there a particular vision that you had when putting the song together? -

This song is a visualization of wrestling with the struggle of a breakup and the strong desire to call an ex, despite knowing you shouldn't.

If you could define music in one short sentence (no cheating) what would you say?

Music fills in the spaces that normal words cannot.

I 100% agree with that definition. When did you first realise that you had the potential to be an artist? Is there a memory that has stuck in your mind as the turning point for you?

I remember playing the guitar and singing around a campfire for the first time in front of friends. Watching them tap their feet and hearing them sing along to what I was singing made me fall in love with performing and creating music.

How would you define your sound?

Singer/Songwriter, Americana, Indie

Cubase, Protools, or neither?

Neither!

This might be a tricky one but Studio vs Live - Which do you prefer and why?

Live, hands down. To me it's much more raw and personal!

How do you collaborate with vocalists and other artists?

I'm humble in collaborations. I've been around phenomenal artists and have been blessed to learn so much from them.

If you had the opportunity to work with one of your favorite musical artists, who would you most like to collaborate with and why?

Eric Church. He is my favorite artist and has been my idol for as long as I can remember. His writing style, the lyrics and music he composes are incredible.

What are your future plans? What can we look forward to for the rest of 2022? from Colt Sterk?

This song is just my second single this year, with a whole EP shortly to follow and another standalone single to be released at the end of this year!
