ARTIST BACKGROUND

 

Los Angeles-based artist Jadmarie remembers the day that she finished writing her latest release like it was yesterday. 'Love??' was born in a state of reflection after a long day in the heart of Los Angeles when the artist started to question the universal concept of love and if she was ever going to experience that feeling again after being heartbroken. We've all had that crisis right? At that moment, Jadamarie did something extraordinary, she tapped into her pain and used it as a superpower. As she began making the beat she wanted something lighthearted to come out of something so heavy. Influenced by the sounds of lofi and indie hip-hop she created a warm lullaby with a throbbing underlayer. Jadamarie wants to spread the message that you don’t always have to hold misery in your heart, and that you can turn it into musical joy.

Love?? is one of those magical pieces that lure you into a dream state. The track opens with choppy piano, dreamy synths, and a catchy drum loop. As Jadamarie begins to sing we're taken on a trip around a dreamy universe that is packed with feelings, soul, and depth. If I was to compare this artist to another artist I don't really think there are any. The whole feel of the piece is mindful, ambient, and pure magic. Several futuristic samples make their way into the track in key places to add to the temporal nature of the piece. Jadamarie is certainly an artist for visionaries and dreamers alike. INTERVIEW

 

What would be your ultimate achievement for your latest single? Is there a particular vision that you had when putting the song together?


My ultimate goal for this single is to spread good vibes. I feel like the world is so chaotic right now, and I just want people to have an escape from it all. When I was making this song, I had a vision of purple and blue lights surrounding me. I like to associate this song with all of the moments I've spent alone in my bedroom.


If you could define music in one short sentence (no cheating) what would you say?

f I had to choose one word to describe music, it would be peace. Music is the only thing that makes me feel like I have everything in control.


One artist you would bring back to life?


One artist that I would love to bring back to life is Amy Winehouse. I feel like she never had a chance to see how influential she is to so many female artists who don't go by society's standards.


When did you first realise that you had the potential to be an artist? Is there a memory that has stuck in your mind as the turning point for you?


I think I always knew that I could be an artist from a young age. I always had the desire to express myself in any way possible. I remember the first demo I made in my bedroom (the song is called Blue). I remember my intuition telling me that my purpose in this world was to share art.


Do you play any instruments? If not, is there a specific one that you'd like to learn?

My favorite instrument to play is piano. I started composing classical pieces when I was 3. I also taught myself guitar in quarantine and I played trumpet and clarinet throughout middle school and high school.


How would you define your sound?


My sound is like a vivid dream. I want my music to take people to another dimension.



What is the biggest challenge you've faced as an artist?


The biggest challenge that I've faced as an artist is self- doubt and comparison. I always feel like I'm not as good as my peers in the music industry.


What are your future plans? What can we look forward to for the rest of 2022?


I'm definitely looking forward to finishing my album and graduating from the Los Angeles Recording School!


Where would you like to be 5 years from now?


Five years from now, I just want to be happy.
