ARTIST BACKGROUND

Pete Hollis from Greenville, United States is a producer/artist who writes, records, produces, mixes, and masters all of his own music. With a mixed bag of influences ranging from hip-hop to lovepop to old classic 70's and 80's hits, this artist has a lot to pull out of the bag. His latest release 'Why Is Your Hand Touching Mine?' is a song about the first time that he fell in love and the feelings that came with it. I got Hollis in for an interview this week but first, I want to take you through the track! Shall we?...

WHY IS YOUR HAND TOUCHING MINE?

REVIEW

Pete Hollis presented us with their latest single entitled 'Why Is Your Hand Touching Mine?' and boy, it's great. The opening is very experimental with techno-sounding synths but before we know it we're lured into a place of heavy funk through the use of bass. This addition made all the difference to the flow of the track for the better! The vocals are different from anything I've heard for a while in pop. The way that the track is mixed has a lot of new things to offer the listener throughout the track through the inclusion of new compositions and instrumentation during the breakdowns. Definitely, one to have a listen to if you're a fan of 80s music!

INTERVIEW

What would be your ultimate achievement for your latest single? Is there a particular vision that you had when putting the song together?

My ultimate achievement would probably be having Troy Sivan or Dua Lipa listen to my song. My vision for this song was only to express the feeling of falling in love in an honest and exciting way.

If you could define music in one short sentence (no cheating) what would you say?

Music is dope.

When did you first realise that you had the potential to be an artist? Is there a memory that has stuck in your mind as the turning point for you?

I realized it about 4 years ago, I sat down at the piano and just started writing. It felt so natural, that I knew I needed to keep doing it.

How would you define your sound?

I would define my sound as unique, yet familiar. I have a nostalgic 80’s feeling sound, while also having inspirations from various places added in.

Cubase, Protools, or neither?

I use fl studio!

This might be a tricky one but Studio vs Live - Which do you prefer and why?

I like them both :)

How do you collaborate with vocalists and other artists?

Usually online, sometimes in person.

If you had the opportunity to work with one of your favorite musical artists, who would you most like to collaborate with and why?

Probably Rhianna. Her music speaks to me.

What are your future plans? What can we look forward to for the rest of 2022?

I am going to continue writing music and getting better at what I do. I will have a lot more music coming out this year :)
