‘The Gastronaut’ is a single that blows tone and funk through a core of rock and comes up laughing like a loon. 9 O’Clock Nasty is responsible for this marvellous musical creation and it is one that I highly recommend. There are classic hip-hop elements in the root. Deep pianos roll with the lo-fi-esque beat. Vocals ascend and crash as hard as you like, filling the world with colour as a groove sits behind and kicks up its heels. The track revolves around itself and wraps you up in its charm. It’s loud, proud, and full of delicious licks and bright ideas.
9 O’Clock Nasty always brings something new to the table. Be that a line, a melody, a texture or even completely unique instrumental tones. This time it's the blend that’s new. It’s a wild combination of so many genres that you would think it shouldn’t work. And for most people, it wouldn’t. But for the minds of 9 O’Clock Nasty, this kind of fusion is a walk in the park. Stellar.
