‘Feel This Way’ is the latest from Alexia Vegas. It’s a single that pushes into the darker side of pop, with its foreboding rhythms and deep synth tones. The sky would be a perfect darkness if it were not for the vocals, fighting back the shadows until the break of time. The single pours emotion into its every step, it shines in the merry gloom. The bass drums work out a step time, the synth in the back falls to the rhythm, as do the terror clouds. But the story is simpler than all of these epic accoutrements, and Alexia Vegas breaks it down with passion and professional form.
The song twists and turns, the instrumental holding ground in the verses and the vocals winning the choruses. This battle of sonic understanding is what makes this single ever so addicting to me. It’s the back and forth of the beat, the ideas that fly overhead. This single, like its subject matter, is fighting to belong in an uncomfortable world. We can all relate to that, I feel. Alexia Vegas has taken a theme near and dear to all of us, and yet so secret it is sanctified. It takes true heart and human honesty to deal with these illuminations, and here, in ‘Feel This Way,’ Alexia Vegas shows us she has the guile and emotion to accomplish anything. Splendid and touching, from start to finish.
