Danish poet and songwriter Denni Ian floats seamlessly between the soundscape of indie rock with intricate melodies and poetic yet cryptic lyrical endeavours. Characteristics of 90s lo-fi rock, folk and post punk transmute a likeness to the likes of Elliott Smith and Nick Cave.


‘So This Is How We Dance’ is an outburst of emotion, underpinned by characterised ballads, lead piano and enchanting strings. Eeriness sweeps throughout the piece in the form of an emotive vocal. Almost sounding as though the artist has completely surrendered to emotion, this song acts as a complete timestamp of emotions that linger.


Accompanied by a music video shot at a Danish renaissance mansion during the undergoing of reconstruction, monochrome features a poetic choreography in Ian's music video directorial debut. Portraying a contemporary dance of surrender sees a woman let lose on her soul, using her body as a vessel for expression. Doorframes, doorframes and more doorframes. The journey of Denni Ian continues.


A world of alternative and contemporary art paints its way through life with the flick of a brush that only Denni Ian can master. I hope that there’s more to come from this artist, cryptic expression is something that quizzes the mind, and we all need exercise.
