Filmed across iconic Melbourne locations, Genevieve Sovereign’s latest video pairs ethereal vocals with striking movement, offering a surreal journey through sound and vision.
Genevieve Sovereign’s visual debut for Saturn in Chinos isn’t just another music video—it’s an atmospheric deep-dive into the soul of experimental electronic artistry. Shot across two key locations in Melbourne and released on 30th April 2025, this original video marks a significant milestone in Sovereign’s artistic evolution. Directed by Leong Chan, with movement direction and consultation by multidisciplinary artist Jessica Angelique Gabrielli, the video is a meditation on presence, flow, and transformation through motion.
Drawing aesthetic inspiration from genre-defining visuals like Grimes' Genesis and Chloe Qisha’s 21st Century Cool Girl, Saturn in Chinos integrates fluid movement with Sovereign’s celestial soundscape to create a truly immersive experience. It's no accident this track was chosen as the lead single from her latest full-length album STARSEEDS WANTED: enquire within (SWew), which launched globally on 28th March 2025.
Sonically, the track navigates a cinematic blend of downtempo chillstep, dreamy synthscapes, and vocal-led electronica. The single invites listeners to traverse emotional dimensions with Sovereign, mirroring the album’s larger themes of inner exploration, cosmic longing, and artistic rebirth. Produced by Becki Whitton (also known as Aphir), the track boasts lush production and expansive textures that echo both vulnerability and strength.

In Sovereign’s own words, Saturn in Chinos is the heart of the album: “It means a lot to me personally. It chronicles vital parts of my journey not just as an artist, but as a human.” That personal weight translates directly to screen, with the video’s movement sequences illuminating the emotional intricacies embedded in every note.
In an unexpected twist, the album also closes with Saturn in Chinos (Lyricless Vocaljam Version)—a raw, inspired take that spans Sovereign’s full vocal range, from B2 to just shy of D6, showcasing her technical prowess and artistic spontaneity. “I was just vocal-jamming,” she shares, “and it felt so right, I had to include it.”
As a complete audiovisual statement, Saturn in Chinos presents Sovereign not just as a musician but as a conceptual artist. The video is now available to stream via her official YouTube channel, offering both new listeners and long-time fans a glimpse into the inner cosmos of one of Australia’s most introspective electronic voices.
