Genuine Leather's 'Even If I Could': A Fluid, Colorful Synth Wave Single That Infuses 80s Spirit

With huge a huge synthetic orchestra and the disembodied spirit of an 80s mullet, there is no stopping the greatness of Genuine Leather. Their single, ‘Even If I Could,’ is a boundless exploration of scale, melody and positivity in the indie synth wave scene. But there is more to it than that. This single holds in its core, more than just synth. There is a background in rock, a passion for stadium fillers and classic anthem hits, as well as an explicit understanding of the to’s and fro’s of the modern pop world. What then, are we left with after all of those voices have their say? An extremely addictive and worldly song that will bite everyone just the same.
I mean it. There is nothing not to love about this track. It’s bold where it needs to be and pulls off the pedal when it doesn’t. There are moments of bliss, moments of uproar, moments of straight jamming, all shot through a haze of terrific synth vibes. Genuine Leather have done it again and this is their best yet. It’s fluid, colourful and chock full of insane ideas that should never work, but they just do. What will make ‘Even If I Could’ a mainstay, however, is that at its core it is a simple song that focuses on the melody. It ingrains itself into your DNA and therein lies the magic quality of Genuine Leather’s sound. Smashing.
