MAL’s latest single lives in a genre I can only describe as indie synth prog rock. ‘Madness As Lift’ is a mind-bending soul-altering track that barks at the sun so loud that the sun barks back. Its mix of wavy vocals, fine synthetic tones, crashing drums and absolutely insane guitar and bass melodies creates a swirling tonal whirlpool of harmonies that will suck you under the darkened waves of rock. MAL is creating sounds no one else is even coming close to. Listening to ‘Madness As Lift’ is a unique experience and one that I am totally in love with. It’s sharp, it’s catchy, and it gets as heavy as you like.
The start of the song sees you arrive in this hallucinogenic wasteland. The swirling vultures caw in dissonant harmonies as you wander the dunes. Soon the bass kicks up a terror. You run, tripping, then the guitar picks you back up and you continue on, but it’s too late. The chorus swallows you whole and you become one with the sound. MAL’s music bleeds creativity. This is no cookie-cutter rock, oh no, far from it. This is music that makes you think, makes you move, and changes the world around you as it plays. A true sonic phenomenon. I highly recommend it.
