‘Nothing New (Stripped)’ from Inimical Drive is a rocking single that switches out the mainstream instrumental for something wider, something open. The crashing drums are replaced with thoughtful percussion. The ruthless chug of guitar swapped for precise piano stabs. The core of the rock is there, that attitude and that pace, but the fire in the belly of it all, is something wholly new. The sound is profound and when it is paired with the power of that main vocal, shivers run through your spine. Inimical Drive have a grit to their tone. It comes out like late 90s grunge with more style, and more swish smoothness. They are rockers, through and through, but ‘Nothing New (Stripped)’ changes the angle. We see their poetic side, the side of rock that is usually hidden behind crunch and distortion. A beautiful song for a beautiful mind.
