‘Perfect’ from Joyce Martens is one of those songs which sits on your shoulder and whispers sweet nothings into your ear. It’s a joyful song that takes the glow of life and shows it off, making everyone's day that little bit brighter. With pop in the soul and rock on the mind, this single flies at you with a tremendous pace and presence, filling the room with colourful lines of melody and calming harmonic tones. Joyce Martens has taken her sound to the next level and this track is an embodiment of that. It does not come alone, it is but one song of many off of her tremendous ‘Perfect’ album.
The guitar tones catch in the air like forks of lightning on a mellow summer evening. They light up the sky, pretty and powerful, but the sound hasn’t hit you yet. 3 beats and the noise comes rushing in. The warm glow of the vocals pairing with the bass as the chorus begins to fly higher into the storm. Percussion rolls through the melody, clashing with the highs, bringing up the lows, and adding layer upon layer of heft to an already intimidating sound. Then it splashes, creating streams of sparks, layers of colour and a feeling of release. ‘Perfect’ is an indie track through and through. It’s full of emotion, takes risks in the melody department and is all the better because of it. A fantastic song which stole my heart.
