Kirk Van Saturn resurfaces with a second single, “Those Wicked Cards,” a cryptic and literate slice of glam-prog that dips into the arcane and irrational. Released on March 1st, this enigmatic follow-up to the primal bluesy debut “Abraham” is both an anthem and a riddle – a dark ritual in musical form.
Driven by the raw DNA of Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple, this track doesn’t just echo the giants of classic rock—it communes with them. “Those Wicked Cards” tells the tale of a tarot reading delivered by a sinister cartomancer whose motives may be less than pure. Singer-songwriter Kirk, the band’s elusive ringleader, describes it as “a tarot reading from a sinister cartomancer whose intentions may not be entirely honourable,” nodding toward T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land as a lyrical reference point.
The result is a swirling blend of heavy blues, theatrical glam, and progressive structures—where mystical symbolism meets pounding riffs. With a cryptic invitation to “Be curious. Join us,” Kirk Van Saturn positions themselves not just as a band but as a mythos.
Despite having no social footprint or public profile until now, the band lets the music speak volumes. It’s rock and roll cloaked in shadow, driven by ancient symbols, arcane knowledge, and poetic musings. "Those Wicked Cards" is as much a spell as it is a song.
