‘Numina’ from Mariana Masetto is a single I would describe as a cinematic folk track. The flow is of folk, it churns up and down like the sea with the vocals which rest in the highs and bank with the grace of gulls. The instrumental is made of strings and subtle percussion. They follow the vocal's steps and climb the air along with them. But the scale is immense. The bass splashes and the waves grow above your head, the strings pluck and their reverb reaches the atmosphere. The quaint vocal pushes into the chorus and becomes astronomical. There is an energy here, untapped, raw and full of greatness.
Mariana Masetto knows what the song needs. ‘Numina’ feels organic, as if it was written from the soul. It feels like the world created the sound because it simply needed to be. Listening to the song not only feels great, it feels like a right of passage. A beautifully human song for the modern age.
