PLANTOID: A Psychedelic Odyssey from Brighton's Beaches

Brighton, a coastal city in the UK, has a rich history of being a breeding ground for experimental and groundbreaking music. Plantoid is no exception. A 4-piece ensemble that shatters genre boundaries, they have managed to amalgamate the essence of psych-rock, jazz, and a plethora of influential decades in their music.

Having been handpicked to support notable acts like Squid and Water From Your Eyes, they have started to make ripples in the music scene. Their authenticity shines through, especially when considering the charming anecdote of Rachel from 'Water From Your Eyes' generously praising them onstage. But, having listened to their music, many would argue Rachel's comment isn't just mere flattery.

Their recent signing with Bella Union, a record label that boasts a roster of enigmatic and sonically pioneering artists, seems like a match made in musical heaven. Bella Union is known for championing unique sounds, and Plantoid perfectly fits that bill.

"Dogs' Life", their lead single, serves as a powerful introduction to the uninitiated. A musical melting pot, the song is an ode to the band's eclectic influences, from the psychedelic sixties, the progressive seventies, to the experimental eighties. What stands out is the masterful musicianship that binds these influences into a cohesive, yet wonderfully chaotic sound. The driving guitar rhythms paired with mesmerizing bass lines form a strong sonic backbone.

Chloë Spence’s ethereal vocals elevate the track to otherworldly realms. The inspiration behind the song, Chloë’s dog Poppy, lends a personal touch and quirkiness to their sound. The song, both in its theme and musical journey, mimics the temperament of Poppy, oscillating between euphoric highs and intense depths.

With the release of "Dog’s Life" and an upcoming debut album, Plantoid is solidifying their place as not just another band from Brighton but as a force to be reckoned with in the UK's rock landscape. Their fresh take on rock, combined with intricate layering and expert musicianship, ensures that Plantoid is a name that will be echoed in the corridors of progressive music for years to come.
