Serbian/Chinese Artist Realma Dazzles with a Futuristic Anthem, Merging Personal Battles with Intergalactic Adventure.
Welcome to the realm of electronic pop and experimental music. A place where Realma, a Serbian/Chinese polymodal artist, takes us through her latest single "Down the Railway Spine". Famed for her boundary-pushing creativity, she returns with a cinematic single that plunges listeners into a science fiction saga whilst echoing her personal struggle against PTSD.
"Down the Railway Spine" offers us an action-packed, emotional rollercoaster by combining the vibrancy of synth-pop with the depth of game-style orchestral music. Yes, you read that right, I've never heard of that mix either, but I sure was intrigued to the max. With a cinematic obscurity of an opening, I felt as though I fell down the rabbit hole let alone "Down the Railway Spine". I don't mean that in a bad way either! This song intrigues every part of me. I love it. It is genuinely one of those songs that you have to experience first and then go back to check that you understood the experience. It's contagious, dark, different. It's just superb. "Down the Railway Spine" is a true example of the potential that turning pain into art can offer, and it's a hell of a painting.
Realma's sound—flaring with experimental edges and adorned by an irregular 7/8 rhythm—carries the fierce orchestration and various vocal and synth effects to a crescendo of introspection and resilience. The track delves into the artist's darkest moments, transforming the chaos of mental deterioration into an anthem of survival and defiance.
The accompanying 3D animated music video (which you can find at the top of this article), was crafted in collaboration with the award-winning animator Mihajlo Dragaš where he propels us as the audience into a visually stunning space. The story follows an interstellar racer on a daring mission to save his younger sibling, traversing three contrasting planets and facing cataclysmic monsters. Inspired by iconic films like Tron and Blade Runner, the animation is a tribute to contemporary Sci-Fi art, meticulously designed to encapsulate the track's epic and euphoric essence.

Realma's collaboration with Dragaš represents a significant departure from their previous works, moving from fantasy and mysticism towards a vibrant Sci-Fi realm. The ambitious project was both demanding and rewarding, aiming to visually narrate the protagonist's battles and emotional journey through expansive worlds and elaborate effects.
Through "Down the Railway Spine", Realma's journey through darkness and towards light, offers solace and empowerment to those battling their demons by offering hope, and, an invitation to embrace our inner heroes. Overall, this is a mesmerizing entry into this artist's universe where music and visual art converge to tell stories of epic proportions.
