The 00s post-punk and pop sound have influenced our culture perhaps more than we ever gave it credit for. The sound of that era in the indie scene and the mainstream was full of flavour and punch. The power behind it all is what got us hooked, and it can still get you hooked today. ‘Not Now, Love’ is a single from heavy on the heart that takes those 00s qualities and revives them through rock. It’s proud, it’s potent and it showcases a time to be alive. The guitar holds that quality, it can fill a stadium or just a front room and sound equally as good. The bass flies in high but can dip down low to play with the drums as they splash and crash their way through any obstacle. At the core of it all, those vocals. Boasting harmonies and a powerful core, they rush through the melody, sending it at you as fast as you can handle. It’s tantalising and keeps your heart beating strong.
Once you hear it, you love it. ‘Not Now, Love’ swings to hit its niche sound and thwacks a home run without even looking. It’s bright and tonal, punchy when it needs to be and soft when it doesn’t. Heavy on the heart are masters of the 00s and I sure hope they continue to be.
