The Art Crimes Band are a soulful and funky bunch. Their single, ‘In The Dark of the Evening,’ is a brilliant example of uptime soul music with a jazzy twist and rock influence. It's smooth, wonderfully musical and full of frills and high-class musical talent. Some bands that sit on funk and jazz go wild with it. It's too much to listen to, guitars here, riffs there, the bass doing god knows what. They stray from the simple fundamentals of funk and jazz and that’s the melody. Not here though, The Art Crimes Band push that melody as hard as they can and it works. It's catchy, well built, and every instrument gets its time in the spotlight. The vocals are held aloft by the instrumental and they have enough texture and musicality in them to keep the jazz in line. It's the sound that The Art Crimes Band was born to play, ‘In The Dark of the Evening’ is a smashing tune through and through.
