‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’ is yet another example of why The Hybris are taking over the future-rock indie space. It’s a full-on single and it pulls no punches. It rides into the sound space on the back of a chrome horse, drums rolling overhead, broiling the clouds and creating guitar-chop rain. It's a tremendous spectacle, and they’re only just getting started. The song jumps to the left and dives to the right. It never sits still even for a moment, there is energy pulsing from every inch of the music; every note, every harmony, every glistening line of melody.
The Hybris have been pumping out bangers for a while, and they never cease to amaze me. Each song feels newer, faster, stronger and tighter than the last. ‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’ takes their sound and adds way more 80s, and it is glowing because of it. The bass line rolls faster, the drums hit those toms with drive and purpose, and the vocal has fun with it. This is certainly their most fun track to date, and if you’re into that 80s sound, then you will adore this offering from The Hybris. It’s still got that rock in the core, it’s still heavy when it needs to be. ‘The Game Of Cat And Mouse’ is covered in neon spandex and wears thick-rimmed sunglasses — and it is fantastic.
