🛰️ THROWBACK | Deltawelle – Sentiments and the Romance of Escapist Indie Noir

Deltawelle
Deltawelle

French new wave meets German existentialism.

Released in October 2023, Sentiments is a striking EP from Leipzig/Berlin band Deltawelle, combining retro textures with futuristic moodiness. Sung primarily in French, this four-track release feels both deeply European and oddly cosmic—a melancholic but melodic meditation on disconnection, chaos, and emotional drift.

“Four songs. Four stories. All floating through the noise.”

Opening track “Sentiments” sets the emotional tone—lyrically about confusion and emotional fragmentation, sonically wrapped in reverberated guitars, coldwave synths and understated drama. “Oublié” shifts the atmosphere, built around a chilling spoken-word sample from German astronaut Alexander Gerst, issuing an eerie warning from space.

Escapism as survival.

On “Retroviseur”, Deltawelle lean into escapist dream-pop with shades of The Cure and Radiohead—a soundtrack for daysleepers and night-thinkers. The closer, “Jusqu’à ce que le soleil se couche” (Until the Sun Sets), is a poetic slow burn—two souls suspended in the stars, neither grounded nor lost, just… floating.

From Berlin rehearsal rooms to Deutschlandfunk Nova.

Deltawelle’s DIY spirit runs throughout: the EP was written in Leipzig, arranged in Berlin, and recorded in their rehearsal space at Ostkreuz. They’ve already caught the attention of Deutschlandfunk Nova, MDR Sputnik, and Its All Indie, who called them “a rising act in the German music scene.”

A quote from the band says it best:“We write music to escape the chaos, not ignore it.”
