WHO'S YA FAVOURITE?! CHART - ACOUSTIC, INDIE ROCK & GUITAR RIFFS - 22/07/2022

NUMBER 1

DANIEL STEER - Rebel

Teignmouth, United Kingdom

Daniel Steer has created an awesome new single ‘Rebel’ and I’m totally lovin’ it! Holding Rock and Pop features but100% screams New Country and I am so here for it! This track flows with an outlaw country sound, this matched with young rock-infused vocals which pair perfectly! You will not be able to stop your boots from stomping to that drumbeat as your shoulders bop to the gritty guitar and you sing your heart out to traditional Country style lyrics about one's freedom, hitting the wide open road, and being a rebel! This was an easy Number 1!

NUMBER 2

ALEXANDRA - Bonnie & Clyde

Dallas, United States

Alexandra is an Indie – Pop singer/songwriter originally from Ohio but currently based in Dallas which explains the Country sensibilities within her latest release of ‘Bonnie & Clyde’! I do get the feeling Alexandra has been inspired by LeAnn Rimes, especially on this track, and what a great idol to take away from. The vocals are gorgeous, crystal clear, and absolutely hypnotising as you can sing along to the story she shares, the drumbeat is fast and exciting and the guitar riff is sexy and smooth. I am hooked and you can now consider me a fan of Alexandra!!

NUMBER 3

Kyle Huskey - Villain

Fountain Valley, United States

‘Villain’ is a brand new release and has already got my attention and my music senses tingling! This song from Kyle Huskey will indeed capture your mind, body, and soul with this sophisticated, seriously soothing, sway-along song. ‘Villain’ has sad and deep lyrics that are ever so sweetly sung alongside a simple stepping drumbeat and a smooth and laid-back guitar riff. This allows Huskey’s astonishingly amazing vocals to be the main focus of the song, thus letting us listeners truly connect with him as an artist and his heartfelt lyrics. This acoustic Indie is dark and beautiful!

NUMBER 4

GRACE DE GIER - And Now

Heerhugowaard, Netherlands

WOW! My first thought was ‘No way! A modern day Blondie!’. Now we can agree that this is a super high comparison to make but Grace de Gier has captured that super edgy Pop, Punk – Rock attitude from the late 70s and early 80s! ‘And Now’ is an awesome single taken from her 2021 EP; this tune holds a fast-paced drumbeat, a funky electric guitar riff with breathy vocals that sound incredibly sweet yet sassy. The upbeat lyrics are simple and unforgettable, which will totally have you singing along! This song will 100% get you jumping around like crazy!

NUMBER 5

JACK LANDESS - Mocean

Nashville, United States

Credit - Trafton Welsh, Aubrey Landess

The intro to ‘Mocean’ is ever so beautiful! It starts with the sound of crashing waves and a lightly strung guitar for the first 30 seconds, this is until the fade out which fades back in with a kicking beat! The intro continues for a minute before the vocals approach and I love a good build-up! Absorbing the instrumentals and the musical aura created whilst eagerly waiting for the lyrical story to start. This is such a happy feeling track with the breathy vocals, and good use of instrumentals giving us listeners something to really dance around to.

NUMBER 6

Mulholland Jive - Empire

Cambridge, United Kingdom

Mulholland Jive is an instrumental band fuelled by the Funk–Rock genre and is influenced by many well-known inspirations such as Muse, The White Stripes, and Vulfpeck. This musical genius named Ben Mulholland has released a new instrumental piece called ‘Empire’ and it is phenomenal! It is extremely energetic and very expressive and with this, I can imagine it being played within a Burlesque bar or a Lounge environment where everyone is breathing in the musical essence that is being released from the one-man band creating a chaotic yet masterful show of talent that flows through each instrument played.

NUMBER 7

FAILING EXPLORATION - Supernovae

Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

Falling Exploration is a duo that consists of Jose Del Carmen on vocals and bass with Mark Valdez on lead guitar. ‘Supernovae’ starts with a beautifully melodic guitar intro that gradually builds up depth once the bold bass comes in and the smooth drumbeat approaches. The vocals are smooth and raspy at a low register before completely shocking us with those super powerful yet growling vocals in the chorus. I honestly enjoy the equal balance in this track between the vocal singing and the raspy growl that adds that heavy rock aspect whilst expressing the inner pain within the lyrics.

NUMBER 8

YANA - Calm Before The Storm

Brno, Czech Republic

Credit - Dave Keegan

Yana is a singer/songwriter and with this talent, she likes to share messages through the power of her lyrics. Yana shares she has always been “fascinated by meaningful lyrics” and I am with her on this! The lyrics within a song can hold so much power, they can reach out to each of us with our own interpretations and experiences, which is why I truly admire the passion behind Yana’s music. It is thoughtful and from the heart! ‘Calm Before the Storm’ is a slow and steady song with the beautiful backing of violins and an angelic voice.

NUMBER 9

BRYAN COOPER - Heroes Let You Down

Fukuoka City, Japan

Credit - Joao Faria

Bryan Cooper originates from Yorkshire and holds an incredibly unique sound. Cooper's new tune ‘Heroes Let You Down’ starts with a dramatic ’80s infused guitar riff and retro chords, instantly bringing that sweet feeling of nostalgia to 80’s and 90’s Rock and Roll fans! I absolutely love the creative wording within the song, asking a question, and answering back with the song title. I find this a clever play around with words and it really does imprint the thought into your mind… “Have you figured it out? Heroes let you down”. Who are your Heroes? Have they let you down?

NUMBER 10

COLOR CHANNEL - So Far

Boston, MA, United States

Color Channel is a duo focused on the creation of music that is all about “connection, love, and dancing.” This single ‘So Far’ has a smooth groove to it which gets your hips moving to the beat while your shoulders slowly move in a funky sway. I get a sense of inspiration from the ’60s / ’70s with this song, while swaying along myself I imagine this track being played during the slow dance of disco in a rom-com movie, such as ‘Pretty in Pink’ or ‘Back To The Future’. This song is unique, quirky, and definitely one for your playlist!
