WHO'S YA FAVOURITE?! CHART - ACOUSTIC, INDIE ROCK & GUITAR RIFFS - 29/07/2022

NUMBER 1

TRALALA - Winded

San Francisco & Atlanta, United States

Credit - Chris Trewin

Firstly I absolutely love the name of this duo… TRALALA! It is super fun and instantly gave me a carefree vibe even before listening and my first thought was extremely accurate! This new single ‘Winded’ has an exciting electronic beat and the use of the synth creates a euphoric sound throughout thus giving us a chilled-out and carefree vibe. Pair this with deep yet soft, airy vocals which are very easy on the ears making you want to lay back, close your eyes and truly take it all in, floating away in a hypnosis of the delightfully sweet sound.

NUMBER 2

GINGER MAY - Me And You

Tokyo, Japan

GINGER MAY are an international electronic rock band from Japan and they are giving us their fast, fun, and funky tunes! ‘Me And You’ is a super cheeky sounding and playful song with uniquely gorgeous vocals that hold a high, sweet innocent tone that stands out from the heavy guitar riffs and the metal rock aspects of this new track. One thing I truly did love about this song is the first line of lyrics you hear is actually the song title, kicking straight into it. This song is awesome and you’ll absolutely find yourself stomping along to it!

NUMBER 3

LEWIS EVANS - Back To You

Maidstone, United Kingdom

Credit - Lauren Fleming

Lewis Evans is a solo musician and creator of energetic rock music with wild sounds and this is totally expressed in his brand new single ‘Back To You’ with Priest Adeyemi! This song starts out traditionally Indie until it truly kicks in full of rock qualities with the use of the heavy guitar riffs, bold and loud drum beats, and an interesting breakdown which did give me a slight feeling of Rage Against the Machine’s iconic rock song ‘Killing In The Name’. I predict that this new track from Evans ‘Back To You’ will be a new rock club anthem!

NUMBER 4

STARAV - Kirk & StarAV – Endless

Australia

Credit - Sam Godakumbara

Kirk & StarAv have created such a zone-out vibe with this brand new release ‘Endless’, with a floaty atmosphere, and beautiful harmonies alongside a relaxed and laid-back drum beat. This tune is definitely added to my holiday playlist as upon listening in my mind's eye I could see myself sunbathing somewhere on a beach, watching the waves crash and splash as the water glistens in the sun that's beaming down creating mesmerising sea sparkles, I sway and sing along while relaxing and taking it easy. This track is short and sweet so you'll have this one on repeat.

NUMBER 5

MARK BEN WILSON - Fire And Gold

Bude, United Kingdom

‘Fire And Gold’ has been released this month and it’s gaining Mark Ben Wilson many new fans! Wilson has wide and varied musical sensibilities and is inspired by other influential musicians such as Andy Mckee, John Butler, and Ben Howard. This use of modern fingerstyle guitar techniques with which creates a unique sound that’s intimate and uplifting with lyrics that are often taken from personal experiences as well as the love for the natural environment. ‘Fire And Gold’ is a steady-paced tune using soft harmonies with a joyful drumbeat, giving us a jolly backing and a smooth, soulful sway.

NUMBER 6

ELLERY TWINING - THE DAY JEFF BUCKLEY DIED

Mystic, CT, United States

Credit - Michelle Gemma

Ellery Twining has created an ever-so-smooth storytelling song with ‘The Day Jeff Buckley Died’. It is almost like you are listening to an audiobook with a musical backing that keeps the rhythm light, this makes you sway along whilst finding yourself intrigued with the story that he is lightly singing. This song is a slow and steady Indie track with an influence of old folk-country with the acoustic guitar riffs that are matched with a simple yet effective drumbeat that keeps your foot tapping away. Need a tune to wind down to? This is the one.

NUMBER 7

DR. VEERS - Microsleep (Radio Edit)

Glasgow, United Kingdom

Credit - Omar Al-Asadi

'Microsleep' is a super catchy and upbeat bop from Dr. Veers, a talented bunch of musicians from Glasgow! This new song holds the typical Indie sensibilities but creatively adds its own rocky edge, making this an absolute banger! I also found that it gives a sense of deja vu with that popular Indie tone, and super fast guitar riffs but with a simple backing beat on the drums, it's awesome and extremely energetic! It brings a nostalgic feel as their sound is familiar yet new and fresh! 'Microsleep' is short and sleek, this makes me eager to hear more from them!

NUMBER 8

KAYBLE - The Silence You Asked For

Swindon, United Kingdom

Credit - @bhunt720

KAYBLE is a self-recorded and produced contemporary Art Rock musician, his talent is unbelievable! Expressing Gothic undertones along with an intense narrative and lyrical themes of “darkness, despair, and dreaminess”. I absolutely adore the intro of ‘The Silence You Asked For’ as it oddly starts with an alarm going off in the distance that captures you before developing into a breezy and euphoric aura created with an acoustic guitar, a slight use of the synth before blessing us with beautiful harmonies that hold so much depth whilst expressing heartfelt lyrics. This is one for a smooth afternoon playlist!

NUMBER 9

TIRED ALL THE TIME - Elohim

Washington, DC, United States

Credit - Tired all the Time

Tired All The Time have just dropped a super euphoric, bassy bop! For fans of Owl City and Daft Punk, this one is definitely for your playlists! I absolutely adore the ambient music in their brand new track ‘Elohim’ I feel it evokes a sense of imagery, awakens emotions, and gives you a sense of floating through space as well as embracing other cosmic sounds and sensations. Adding the pitch shifter on the vocals gives an astronomical aura that adds to the creation of the out-of-space sound scape which overall impacts the lyrics and the story being sung.

NUMBER 10

IDLE LIES - 20

Liverpool, United Kingdom

Credit - Lewis Barker

From Flintshire North Wales, Idle Lies mix indie rock with the 80's pop and ska music that's kept its relevancy in North Welsh factory towns throughout the decades. Their new single '20' comes on the back of recent support from Wrexham FC, who've added them to their halftime playlist for matches at the Racecourse. Their previous single 'Two's a Crowd' was aired on BBC Radio Wales by DJ Adam Walton, which he described as “indie guitar music full of charisma from a band with stories to tell, not just spaces to fill”. - Source - The Idle Lies
